      I am still amazed that a “Rag-Tag” Group from Somalia can create so much havoc in the Indian Ocean.  Notice, that I said “Indian Ocean,” because they are no longer confined to the Shores off of Somalia.         I just read where the Pirates have now acquired more sophisticated weaponry from the former Gadhafi regime.  One of the so called acquisitions is a mine that can be attached to the hull of a ship.   I am not a Military Man.  But, for the life of me, I cannot understand how these “Pirates” are doing what they are doing.   To me, the only sensible solution is to both arm all of the Vessels and also to conduct raids on the land basis as well.   ...

    02/04/2012Another Day in The Philippines and Another Kidnapping (Zamboanga)

    Mayor Jeffrey Lim of Salug town in Zamboanga del Norte was abducted Monday night by at least ten persons wearing bonnets.   The abduction happened at about 7 p.m. while Lim was on his way to the Salug Integrated bus terminal.   A yellow van used in the kidnapping was later found burned and abandoned in Bgy. Caracol, according to Philippine Army 102nd Brigade commander Col. Gerry Barrientos.   Authorities said the persons who abducted Lim posed as policemen, but may be rogue Moro Islamic Liberation Front rebels.   The motive of the abduction is still unknown.   Army and police personnel are conducting rescue operations, said Lt.     11/02/2012"Free Goddess" Bulk Carrier with Filipino Crew of 21 Hijacked south of Yemen in Arabian Sea

      ARABIAN SEA:    The “Free Goddess” with a Crew of 21 Filipinos was “hijacked” off the Southern Coast of Yemen on February 7, 2012.    The Free Goddess was en route from Adabiya, Egypt to Singapore, carrying 19,475 metric tons of steel cable with a crew of 21 on board.

    03/02/2012Abu Sayyaf may retaliate for Recent Air Strike that killed some of its Leaders
